{"id":220472,"date":"2025-08-25T14:11:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T13:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/?p=220472"},"modified":"2025-08-25T14:27:01","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T13:27:01","slug":"rasmussens-aggressiveness-praised-by-ed-carpenter-after-maiden-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/2025\/08\/25\/rasmussens-aggressiveness-praised-by-ed-carpenter-after-maiden-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Christian Rasmussen\u2019s aggressiveness praised by Ed Carpenter after maiden win"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Christian Rasmussen won his first IndyCar race on Sunday, partly due to his aggressive driving style that allowed him to pass six cars in the final 29-lap stint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rasmussen\u2019s aggressiveness has been a talking point this season, usually with the conversation asking whether or not it is over the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The young driver\u2019s team owner Ed Carpenter does not see his approach as a problem, however, and put his full support behind Rasmussen following his victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cChristian impressed us a ton before he ever got in one of our cars, the way he finished off the INDY NXT championship that he won,\u201d said Carpenter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe back half of that season, it was a tight battle, but he really took control of it at the end. That level of intensity, dedication and improvement that he showed from his two years in that championship is really what stood out to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThen we put him in a car [for a test day] at Barber against Oliver Askew. A bit of a showdown. He rose to that challenge, as well. When you put a car in front of him, especially when he&#8217;s got a tire advantage, it&#8217;s a scary thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople talk about they don&#8217;t like everything he does. We haven&#8217;t asked him to change one thing. He&#8217;s attacking and being aggressive, not settling for anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat&#8217;s the mentality we want to have as a team. Really proud of the effort and he way he finished today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Respected by others<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps because he earned the victory at Milwaukee, Rasmussen\u2019s style accrued respect from other competitors as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Multiple drivers came to victory lane to congratulate him in person, including his team-mate Alexander Rossi who lifted him off his car as soon as he climbed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2025-08_35-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-220474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2025-08_35-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2025-08_35-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2025-08_35-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2025-08_35-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2025-08_35.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">ECR owner Ed Carpenter was all smiles in victory lane. Photo: Kevin Dejewski<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But the appreciation from those outside the ECR team are perhaps more representative of the true opinions of the paddock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat&#8217;s how he races,\u201d said Scott McLaughlin, who finished third on Sunday. \u201cYou got to respect it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think he&#8217;s very fast. He&#8217;s very brave. He makes some really nice split-second decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs we&#8217;ve seen, it&#8217;s bit him in the backside a couple of times as well. He&#8217;s learning. He&#8217;s getting better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don&#8217;t know. I&#8217;ve said for a long time, he&#8217;s going to win a race at some point. He&#8217;s been really strong.
